UNI-verse Don't Make Me Laugh
If you have ever watched anything on the Science Channel or Discovery or National Geographic or even the History Channel for that matter, then you have probably seen this guy, Dr. Michio Kaku. He's a physicist and he's smart- as in "I co-founded string theory" smart and he is an excellent communicator. Like Hawking's book A Brief History of Time or Carl Sagan's series Cosmos he makes science digestible to us lay-folk. His optimism and excitement for science is contagious, not an easy feat considering our society seems to revel in its dystopian outlook of the future. Standing on the cutting edge of Theoretical physics it's people like Kaku that make science cool and get the world excited about the possibilities of tomorrow. Now make sure your floor is clean as you will be resting your jaw there for the next 10 minutes; warning mindfuck ahead!

Dark Knight Rises Please Don't Disappoint
First Look at the unAmazing Spider-Man
Possibly spurred on by the poor quality leaked versions that got out Sony has released a nice shiny HD teaser trailer and Friday will no doubt usher in more bootleg footage courtesy of the Comic Con panel. But seriously, the fizzle of a finale that was Spider-Man 3 was only four years ago! How many times can the same story be rehashed? Thanks to greedy studios and American audiences happy to remain in their comfort zone with stories they already know the ending to I have no doubt that this next decade of film will see many more incarnations of the same tired characters. Plus, I thought that CGI was supposed to be getting better with each year, so why does the Spidey through the city sequence look like something render on a PS2? Even if this is the best Spider-Man movie ever (not holding my breath) its still too soon, give me some time to forget the Raimi versions here people. I have a feeling what we have here is another Incredible Hulk being shoved down our throats. But I might be in the minority if Google trends is any indicator this unnecessary remake is garnering a lot of hype.

521 Days Left
Okay, even if you don't buy into the whole 2012 hoopla it doesn't diminish the odds of some sort of cataclysmic event occurring that could put us smack dab in the middle of Road Warrior territory even before then. All fear mongering aside "better prepared than dead" has always been my motto and nothing says "bring it on end times" quite like a well packed bug-out-bag. I'm not talking about your typical domestic fire/earthquake emergency kit that you pick up at Target here, I'm talking a machete, gun, trip wire, bowie knife hardcore them or us escape pack. If history has taught us anything its that when the chips are down, these... these civilized people, they'll eat each other. So it's time to get ahead of the curve and the first step toward surviving a disaster is preparation then it's all about surviving each other. Even if you don't share my misanthropic outlook I think you can agree that if nothing else it is worth it just for the peace of mind provided by knowing your set to bug out at a moments notice and hey its cheaper than Prozac!
Check out how to make a 72 hour emergency evacuation kit over at the Art of Manliness.

Exploring Escher-esque Spacial Anomolies in The Shining
Casual viewers of Kubrick's classic horror film The Shining are unlikely to catch the architecturally impossible design of the Overlook Hotel. Filled with enough windows looking outside where there should be hallways, impossible doors and an almost untraceable floorplan its a Hotel that would make lady Winchester proud.
Imogen Heap's Magical Musical Steampunk Gloves
Grammy award winning singer, songwriter, and visual artist Imogen Heap of Frou Frou fame has taken her music into her own hands literally. Musical engineering expert Tom Mitchell has designed her a pair of 'magic' gloves which remove the cumbersomeness inherit with most electronic interfaces and provide a new level of improvisational freedom. The gloves are linked to a laptop audio processor so that with a wave of her hand she can sample sounds, alter pitch, control synthesizers and drum machines all while looking like a boss. Read More
